I'm staying for now, says Adebayor

Emmanuel Adebayor has rejected the idea of leaving Arsenal this summer.

The 25-year-old has been linked to Serie A giants Milan, as well as London rivals Chelsea, and he has welcomed the Rossoneri’s interest in his services in the recent past.

But the striker, who only bagged 10 Premier League goals this term, has claimed he is fed up with speaking about his future, as his target is to carry on progressing at Emirates Stadium.

But Adebayor has affirmed that he will leave The Gunners if manager Arsene Wenger shows him that he is not wanted.

Arsenal legend Robert Pires has backed his old club to keep the Togolese striker.

“I have always said that I feel good here and I am tired of repeating it,” Adebayor told Marca. “This team has a bright future ahead and this year we have made a step forward in the Champions League, which means that we are progressing.”

Wenger will have the final word regarding the forward’s future.

“I have no idea of what Wenger has in mind,” he said. “He has always been by my side, he is aware of my qualities.

“He is the one who takes decisions and for sure if he tells me that he does not count on me anymore, then I will search for a new team, but if he wants me to stay I will stay. Besides I will have to stay because I am under contract.”

When asked if he has received offers from big clubs, Adebayor said: “If it is the case it is a good sign which shows that I have improved.

“Winning the African Ballon d’Or fills me with pride, from now on I am part of African football’s history and if other clubs want me it means that I have progressed.

“Anyway, I am grateful to Arsenal because they made of me who I am today, and for that reason I am still here.”

The former Monaco striker has refused to close the door on Real Madrid, and he said: “I am under contract and I want to win more titles in England. [Why not] in a few years’ time, but right now I am happy here. One day maybe, why not, within two or three years, but today I am happy in England.”
