Wenger keen to land £10million Everton's star

Sunday 29 March 2009

JOLEON LESCOTT is the most target for Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger. Lescott has been consistent for the last two season at everton would be good impact if he join the gunner next summer.

The Frenchman has been a long-time admirer of the versatile Everton star and knows he needs top-class reinforcements at the heart of his defence.

Lescott has also interested mega-rich Manchester City but he committed his future to Goodison Park a year ago by signing a four-year deal.

That will not deter Wenger, however, who is prepared to pay over £10million for the England player.

Wenger wants Lescott as an out-and-out centre-half - a position he has not always been guaranteed at Everton but where he has been outstanding this season.

Arsenal's current first-choice centre-half pairing, Kolo Toure and former skipper William Gallas, do not speak to each other.

With their resurgence in form, the Gunners look certain to be able to offer Lescott Champions League football next season, a big plus in a World Cup year.

But Toffees boss David Moyes will fight tooth and nail to hold on to Lescott.

He was Everton's Player of the Year last season - with 10 goals in all competitions - and is seen as one of the foundations to the club's future.

Egyption star on his way to English football?

Borrussia Dortmund forward Mohamed Zidan is being linked with a move to the Premier League, according to reports in Africa.

The 25-year-old has been the subject of speculation in his native Egypt, with Arsenal and Everton rumoured to be interested in signing him in the summer.

The Egyptian international, who may be motivated to move by the success of his compatriot Amr Zaki at Wigan, has not ruled out a move but insists he is focused on his role at the Germain side.

"I am not bothered by all those noises around me, my ambition is to impress Dortmund, to be more regular and see," Zidan told skysports.com.

"I believe in myself. To play in the Premier League will please anyone, so I am no different.

"Arsenal? They are a fantastic team with one of the best managers in the game, I love his philosophy - attack, attack, it is good to watch Arsenal, but Manchester also play very, very good football."

Saturday 28 March 2009

Former Arsenal star ljungberg now in joining MLS league and keen to make first debut after pass injury problem since last he played in west ham team in last season.

Freddie Ljungberg has declared himself fit to make his Major League Soccer debut for Seattle Sounders on Saturday.

Ljungberg is set to make an appearance for the Sounders at Qwest Field when they take on Real Salt Lake in the second game of their inaugural Major League Soccer campaign having undergone off-season hip surgery following his move from West Ham.

It will be the Sweden midfielder's first game since last summer's European Championships and Ljungberg said: "I've been feeling good so it shouldn't be a problem.

"I'll play part of the game for sure, so I don't overdo it."

Ljungberg, 31, who won two Premier League titles and three FA Cup finals with Arsenal between 1995 and 2005, said he expects to start from the bench and play for the last 30 minutes against Salt Lake as he works his way back to match fitness.

Offer Milan £25m and Adebayor for Pato

Friday 27 March 2009

Last summer transfer Carlo Ancelotti the Italian club’s manager, is been put big money in £35 million bid for the Togo international striker having failed with a £32 million offer. Adebayor has missed a lot match in this season with a hamstring injury but could turn out for his country against Cameroon in Ghana tomorrow.

That's bollocks. That's pure garbage because (1) they did not offer £32m (2) Ancelotti will not be the AC Milan manager next season and (3) you don't miss 10 matches with a hamstring.

That injury against Spurs was on February 8. Adebayor left the pitch on a stretcher and when the stretcher got to the touchline he jumped off and put on a warm jacket and sat there quite happily. He hasn't played for Arsenal in the 45 days since.

Why not? Because Wenger is protecting his transfer value by not playing him, as he did with Thierry after the PSV fiasco.

Ade to Milan ? Ade to Milan is hilarious ! I love it.

In 1983, AC Milan signed crash-bang-wallop Luther Blissett-Missit from Watford but poor old Luther wasn't remotely skilful enough to play for them. He scored 5 goals in 30 games and went back to Watford a year later. Watford sold him for £1 million and bought him back for £550,000.

Flamini has started 15 Serie A games, Senderos 4.They got the midfielder on a free and the centreback on loan.

Last July the Telegraph said Galliani had spoken to Wenger, who wanted £36 million for Adebayor. If Galliani would not pay that much then, why would he pay it now ?

What Arsenal need is a hot striker like Pato, not a clown like Adebayor. If Arsenal had Pato, Arshavin and Fabregas would have a match-winning goalscorer who is fully-equipped to benefit from their defence-killing passes.

Pato has scored 14 Serie A goals so far this season and maybe more if he got to be playing in all season.

in my oppinion Pato should not be playing in a team of old men, I'll give you £25 million for Pato. And I'll throw in Adebayor for nothing.

Almunia 'would consider England'

Thursday 26 March 2009

Should Ben Foster become England's No 1 in the future, there is every chance that he will have to keep Manuel Almunia out of the side, as the Arsenal goalkeeper is considering an application for a British passport that would allow him to play for Fabio Capello's side.

The Spaniard joined the Gunners from Celta Vigo in 2004, and under residency laws would soon be eligible to apply to become a naturalised British citizen. And despite being a regular in the Champions League, Almunia has not been called up to the Spain team.

While any application is not about to be processed imminently, there remains a chance Almunia would be available to Capello for selection – or indeed, to any of the other home nations – in time for the build-up to the 2010 World Cup.

"People are asking this question now because I have been in England for five years and am able to apply for a passport," Almunia said. "I am taking in the information, what I need to do for a passport. I think, for January next year, maybe I can have the permission. Maybe I will get a passport, then after, if I get the call-up [from England], I will think about this."

Almunia is one of only a handful of first-team Arsenal regulars not away on international duty this week.

Albiol eyes 'perfect' Premier club

Wednesday 25 March 2009

Arsenal and Liverpool are reportedly persuade Raul albiol to join their club next summer. The Valencia central defender Raul Albiol has admitted he would welcome a move to one of the Premier League's big guns.

The Spanish side are in the midst of a cash crisis and have already admitted that they could be forced to sell a number of star players in a bid to balance the books.

Strikers David Villa and David Silva have been attracting admiring glances from across Europe, while Albiol has been linked with a possible switch to Arsenal or Liverpool.

The Spain international had previously stated he was keen to remain at the Mestella, but while he is happy with Los Che he admits the lure of a move to England could prove hard to resist.

Perfect

Albiol told skysports.com: "If I leave Valencia I would only go to a big club.

"The Premier League could be perfect because I have always been a fan of the football they play.

"But I am happy in Valencia at the moment."

The 23-year-old still has two more years to run on his current contract with reports suggesting a fee of around 20million euros (£18.5million) would be enough to secure his services.

Valencia's sporting director Fernando Gomez confirmed that clubs from England were monitoring Albiol, but are yet to make their interest official with a firm bid.

Gomez said: "The situation has not changed and we are obliged to sell players. We know of the English interest but we have not received a formal offer for Raul."

How to take the perfect penalty

Tuesday 24 March 2009

Boffins find formula that could help football players never miss their penalty from the spot again

Tottenham Hotspur player David Bentley, Chelsea's John Terry and Arsenal's Eduardo will never have an excuse for missing a penalty again after university boffins came up with a formula for an unstoppable penalty shot.

After analysing hours of footage, scientists concluded that the perfect spot kick requires speed and the right angle.

With a run-up of five or six paces from the 18-yard line the shot should be at least 65mph, knocked out at a 20- to 30- degree angle.

The shot should cross the goal at 0.5m below the crossbar and 0.5m inside either post. University eggheads have promised 100 per cent success with their formula.

The revelation comes a day too late for Manchester United fans, who on Sunday watched £32.5 million ace Robinho muck-up a penalty against Sunderland.

The formula also could have saved Chelsea skipper John Terry from missing a penalty shot that gave Man United last season’s Champions League win.

A team of researchers at Liverpool John Mores University used Sky Sports’ high definition cameras placed at the back of goal nets to study penalty shots.

"Many factors make up a ‘perfect penalty’. But we’ve finally nailed the key elements," said Professor Tim Cable, director of sport and exercise sciences.

Arsenal and Manchester City set to do battle for Brazil star

Arsenal and Manchester City are reportedly trailing Fiorentina midfielder Felipe Melo.

The Brazil international, 25, has been monitored by Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger since his days with Almeria and his form in Serie A this season has also attracted City's interest.

Melo said: 'Yes, I know that Arsenal, Manchester City and Juventus are following me, but my agent is dealing with these issues. I only think about playing.

Last December Melo admitted he would rather join Arsenal than Chelsea, saying: 'For me, Arsenal re more prestigious than Chelsea.

'But I have four years left on my contract with Fiorentina and I am a Fiorentina player. The future is in the hands of God. I only have to think about doing my job well.'

Arsenal got a chance to see Melo close up when he made his Brazil debut at the Emirates Stadium in February.

The midfielder impressed in the 2-0 defeat of world champions Italy and has been called up for his countries World Cup qualifiers in the next week.

Diaby can be a new Vieira

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes midfielder Abou Diaby can have a similar impact in north London as ex-Gunners captain Patrick Vieira.

The 22-year-old Frenchman possesses the same appearance and powerful, pacey attributes as the Inter Milan midfielder, who made more than 300 appearances for the club.

Diaby - signed from Auxerre in 2006 - showcased his skills at St. James' Park on Saturday, bursting through the Newcastle United defence to fire the Gunners ahead; his second Premier League goal of the season after a similarly lung-busting effort against Aston Villa on Boxing Day.

And Wenger says he sees a lot of his former captain in the young Parisian, and believes he can go on and become a dominant force in the heart of the Arsenal midfield for many years to come.

"There are similarities with Vieira, he has the same stature and the same size," he said.

"He has power through the middle of the park. He showed that with his goal and I feel he is growing at the moment.

"There is still a lot of work for him to do to get to where Patrick was, but he is only 22. Patrick is a very good role model for him.

"There wasn't a lot wrong with his first-half performance. But we were a bit on the back foot at times and didn't protect our defence well enough.

"These are just little things he will learn from game to game."

the gunner beat magpies to stay top 4

Sunday 22 March 2009

What a superb played from Arsenal side which is good performance 3-1 victory over newcastle. they are very strong enough now and have a good determination to success.

Even though The gunner not really in position in the first half and magpies almost there to get the lead but failed to score in penalty. But they change their attitude to be more confident at second half and lastly get their 3 point victory.

Nicklas Bendtner headed the Gunners in front only for Obafemi Martins to atone for a first-half penalty miss with a 58th-minute equaliser.

Abou Diaby restored Arsenal's lead with a superb effort and the match was effectively over within seconds when Samir Nasri fired home a third.

As we all know arsenal still have long way to go between manchester, but if they can get the tempo and rhythm in every game i'm sure they will close the gap and get the title back to their home.

Thursday 19 March 2009

Arsenal has been interest in young french defender Sebastien Bassong. Newcastle United defender Sebastien Bassong has stated that he has been offered a new contract to which he is yet to agree to terms to, but insists that he has nothing to complain about at the moment.

The £500,000 summer arrival from French outfit FC Metz also clarified that even though he is aware of Arsenal's interest in him, he still feels he has a lot to learn at Newcastle United before he can move on to pastures new, as he considers himself to be an apprentice, rather than the finished article.

Speaking to the The Sun, the 22-year-old Frenchman said: "Newcastle want me to sign a contract extension but nothing has yet been agreed. It`s down to me to weigh up the pros and the cons. I`ll take time to make up my mind. I heard people talk about Arsenal being interested in me. I`m not too bothered about whether it is fact or fiction.

"I know that there must be something in it, even though this is not the time to talk about it. I have stepped up a level since joining Newcastle but I am still serving my apprenticeship. I have lots more to learn.

"A new life has begun for me here. I have signed a deal until 2011 and from a personal perspective I have nothing to complain about."

arsenal get through after beat the tigers

Wednesday 18 March 2009

Last night after lead goal from hull city the gunners comeback on two goals, the first goal from van persie with assist from arshavin and the second late goal from gallas as controversial goal but truly good header.

However, this result make arsenal to the semis of the Fa cup and for the first time to play at wembley stadium which now will play against chelsea. the signs now are 2009 could just turn out to be a vintage year for Arsene Wenger’s young Gunners.

Arsenal will also go into Friday’s Champions League quarter-final draw knowing qualification for next season’s elite European competition is once again back in their own hands after wrestling fourth place in the table away from a faltering Aston Villa side.

With Cesc Fabregas still injured, Arsenal were last night captained by Robin van Persie. The fiery yet skilful Dutchman typifies everything this Arsenal side stands for and it was his goal which started the fightback late in the second half before Gallas nodded the dramatic winner, despite looking somewhat offside.

Hull, though, had clearly not read the script as they snatched the lead on 13 minutes when an angled shot from Nick Barmby – who later had a goal ruled out for a marginal offside decision – saw his shot deflected up off Johan Djourou and spun over Lukasz Fabianski.

The equaliser came through van Persie with 16 minutes left.

Substitute Nicklas Bendtner’s persistence in the penalty area paid off when he stabbed the ball across to Arshavin, who pulled it back to the penalty spot for the Dutchman to score.

Bendtner also had a close-range shot blocked behind by Ricketts but Arsenal won it with six minutes to go when Gallas – stripped of the captaincy by Wenger earlier in the campaign – nodded in, from an offside decision.

arshavin desperate to be involved

Arshavin is desperately To Feature In Arsenal's FA Cup Clash after stunning in last match. his magic skill absolutely prove that he is the one who can break the dead lock and saves arsenal in fourth place.

After suffering an open gash on his right foot during the first half of Arsenal's triumph over Blackburn Rovers - an injury that required eight stitches at half time - Andrey Arshavin has revealed that he hopes to be patched up and repaired in order to feature in the club's crucial FA Cup quarter-final bout at home against Hull City.

Despite the wound on his foot, the playmaking forward went on to beat the blue and white striped side's goalkeeper, Paul Robinson, from a seemingly impossibly acute angle. Setting his body up as if to pass across the line, Arshavin instead lifted the ball above the glovesman and into the roof of the net.

Speaking to Arsenal TV Online, Gunners boss Arsene Wenger revealed Arshavin's desperation to be involved.

"Arshavin had eight stitches in his foot but he is still in the squad. We will make a decision tomorrow. He is desperate to be involved. He just wants to play. He couldn’t practice today but we’ll assess him tomorrow morning."

Regarding other selection news, Wenger added, "Almunia is out – he would not have played anyway but he is a doubt for Saturday.

"Also, Kieran Gibbs will play tomorrow night, Clichy is completely rested. Aaron Ramsey is not in the squad too. At the moment he is growing in stature and a bit tired so we will rest him. Apart from that everybody is in."

Eduardo da Silva is also sidelined due to a groin injury.

arsenal in the right place

Monday 16 March 2009

Arsenal in the right place as aston defeat to spurs 1-2 last night. This credit will be great for the gunners and most important things just to keep this opportunity through to the next game.

As arsenal looks like more enjoying in their game, with arshavin looks like a hunger in the scoring and suddenly eboue and song playing quite well.

furthermore Wenger says Cesc Fabregas and Emmanuel Adebayor will be back in action after the international break. Skipper Fabregas damaged medial knee ligaments in December and Togo ace Adebayor limped out of Arsenal's 0-0 draw against Tottenham with a hamstring injury. But Wenger hopes to have the pair back in action by the end of the month.

"After the international break Cesc should be back. He is very close - Adebayor also."

As Arsenal bid to snatch the fourth remaining Champions League place, Wenger says the pair's return will be crucial.

"We have missed a lot of players in the offensive area. Last year we lost people in different departments but this year it has been Fabregas, Adebayor, Theo Walcott and Eduardo," Wenger added.

arsenal crush blackburn

Sunday 15 March 2009

Arsenal's Andrey Arshavin opened his account as an attacking masterclass saw the Gunners to a handsome victory over Blackburn in their Barclays Premier League clash at the Emirates.

Theo Walcott, restored to the starting XI following a cameo against Roma in midweek, was in electric form all afternoon but the headlines will go to the £15m Russian and substitute Emmanuel Eboue, who scored twice at the end.

Arshavin netted a fine individual effort after 65 minutes and may yet be credited with a second after his heavily deflected shot gave Arsenal the opener after just 80 seconds, while Eboue benefited from a tap-in and a penalty.

This win will be sure that arsenal still in total race for top division. I'm sure that they will archive something in this season and it will better than last season even they been start their league in wasted so much in opportunity.

dont give up arsenal still can caught

Friday 13 March 2009

Arsenal will play against blackburn in premier league this weekend. and this is opportunity for arsenal caught the big four which now still open. with arsenal behind 3 point against aston villa and this week maybe they can challenge in this position.

Even though arsenal win in penalty shoot-out last game plus eduardo get his injury again it doesn't means anything, they still can cope and keep the consistent get through for the next game. Maybe adebayor can be the solution to archive in momentum attacking back after done in his injury.

However they need to be focus in this attacking situation if they want to win. i'm confuse in this situation why van persie and bendtner cannot did the same killer as they did before. this is really ruin my head cos sometimes they really powerful in attack and sometimes they really in worst and wasting in passing. if this is kind of problem arsenal can solve it, i'm very sure that nothing can stop with them.

In the next match situation i think what arsenal should do is, they need to beware in the back and keep pressure and shoot in the net as much as they can.

Arsenal win in dramatic penalty over roma

Thursday 12 March 2009

Last night Arsenal was a winner in crucial and dramatic penalty over roma at stadio olimpico. Roma showed that they have been never give up until the end of games but suddenly lost in the last of penalty shoot-out.

Though it is unlucky for them and lucky for the gunners which now showed that the english clubs was completed in a clean sweep of four teams into the Champions League quarterfinals following a cliffhanger shootout victory by Arsenal.

When Max Tonetto shot high over the bar it gave Arsenal passage into the last eight 7-6 on penalties after the match ended 1-0, 1-1 on aggregate, after extra time.

"We needed to show our nerve tonight and determination," Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger told Sky Sports. "We were a bit nervous at the start and gave a goal away more by nerves than them creating the chance. "I must pay tribute to the nerves of my team. There is something in there that comes out, that is huge mental strength.

"Our character has been questioned many times. I’ve said many times that this team is very strong."

but in my opinion arsenal need to be strong in away game sames as much play in their home, if that not happen otherwise arsenal should be shame in others english clubs whose done it well.

Arsenal set to bid newcastle utd player

Wednesday 11 March 2009

Arsenal reportly today have been persuade for bid £10m for United star player. the players already have been play in the regular first team and the Magpies are ready to offer the French youngster a new deal to reward his outstanding debut campaign.

However arsenal already have many player in that position and it remind me in senderos and djourou who have been play in a good season. or foe me someone else could be sell to let a new player for join in.

Sebastien Bassong has admitted he would be "interested" in a move to Arsenal – but says he is "100 per cent focused" on Newcastle United's fight against relegation.

But Arsene Wenger is reportedly lining up a £10m bid for the centre-half, who cost United just £1.5m when Kevin Keegan signed him from Lens in the summer.

"Newcastle want to make me sign a contract extension," Bassong admitted. "I'm waiting to see what they're going to offer me.

"My agent told me about Arsenal's interest. But I don't think now is the moment to speak about it.

"I must be focused on my football, and at the end of the season we will see what happens then.

"At the moment I'm 100 per cent focused on Newcastle, and I don't see any reason why this would change.

"I would lie if I said Arsenal are not a club I'm interested in. But many things can happen before we can speak about a transfer."

Bassong has been a revelation at centre-back since being invited originally for a trial by Keegan trial in the summer.

The 22-year-old first got into the team at left-back, but since his move into the centre of defence he has regularly outshone £10.5m partner Fabricio Coloccini, who arrived on Tyneside from Deportivo La Coruna in the summer with a bigger reputation.

Bassong's current deal runs until 2011, but United want to offer improved terms to keep him at St James's Park.

He is believed to be one of the lowest-paid first-team players at the club, and Newcastle are aware that he is attracting interest from other clubs.

top guns in the champion league battle

Tuesday 10 March 2009

tomorrow , there is a big game for arsenal to settle with. the gunners already lead one goals but this is not guaranty for them to play in the next round.

arsenal will play against roma in the second champion league. this would be the big test which play in away game at rome and the atmosphere in stadium will be magnificent for roma.

Eduardo, van persie and all player need to find goals for keep the champion league a live. with eduardo have been play in the last game with no broken leg. this would be the good news.

In overall i think all arsenal player did a good job, with eduardo, arshavin, song, vela and all player, i saw they much balance in all position. however on last arsenal goals it is superb and hopefully they will bring it again.

In the second win means they have a consistent enough and just need to keep this attitude through. To win the title is too long way to go anything would happen but if arsenal have prepare enough they can get what ever it dreams.

the gunner absolutely stunner

Monday 9 March 2009

ARSENAL strikers Carlos Vela, Eduardo da Silva and eboue scored in a 3-0 victory over Burnley yesterday to put the Gunners through to the sixth round of the FA Cup.Which now will face hull city in the next round.

The gunners, who will take a 1-0 lead with them to the Italian capital for the second leg of their last 16 clash, booked their place in the FA Cup quarter-finals with a comfortable win as they made sure there was no repeat of their League Cup loss to Burnley in December.

Carlos vela put the home side lead with a delightful chip in the 25th before Eduardo volleyed home a superb second and Emmanuel Eboue added a third goal which is a good strike in six minutes from time.

However with a second comfortable win yesterday was a very good result for them and this win showed that the goalless in their performance could be over. All what they need from now is just to focusing, maintain and keep the momentum ahead.

Even though as we know that maybe to get the premier league title is too late but if they can get the champion league and fa cup it could be the greatest ever season in the history for the gunners.

Arsenal vs Burnley tonight

Sunday 8 March 2009

Arsenal were one of Burnley’s Carling Cup victims, along with Fulham and Chelsea, as Owen Coyle’s men edged to the brink of the final before being downed at the death by Spurs in the semis.

But this time arsenal need to bounce back and revenge against burnley besides they already have momentum back after thrill west brom in the last game. with bendtner or van persie in forward and arshavin in second forward i think this is a good formation.

Wenger already told that they are not given up for this cup which is they must win first tonight game before meet hull city and then the bigger one man u or chelsea at the finale.

Man united already showed that they deserve in the semis after beat fulham 4-0 at away games. this might be a good momentum to carry on in the next games champion league against inter milan. and hopefully arsenal will do a good job tonight.

barcalona try to persuade again

Saturday 7 March 2009

barcalona has reveal that they are interest in fabregas and will put 25 million euro in this player for the next season. Although arsenal already told that they are not sale this player even someone put hundred of million in money.

Fabregas is the one midfielder who really give big impact since viera gone. he is the young player and have a bright future in arsenal.

But in the good reason i think arsenal can let fabregas go. cos he is not really perform like he did it in the last season plus hes heart already gone to another team.

However this is a chance for wenger if this deal done, and he can spend the money to buy da silva.

As well as we know in midfield situation they are not in problem if we compare in striker situation. Danilson, nasri, diaby arshavin, and rosicky all this player can take this responsibility.

They might be success if they choose the right person who have ability to score and passing. David da silva is the right person to change in fabregas part. and let he play in left and nasri in center.

Arsenal boss Wenger dropped van Persie to the bench as his side set out to end their run of four league games without a goal, with Bendtner given a starting role.

And the big Dane netted to give Gunners a victory that closes the gap on fourth-placed Villa to three points.

Bendtner scored his first when he cut inside and sent a miss-hit shot past Scott Carson early in the first half.

Baggies hit back almost immediately as Chris Brunt fired home with a 25-yard free-kick that could have been dealt with better.

But Bendtner scored moments before half-time to make it 3-1 to Gunners, his strike adding to one moments earlier from Kolo Toure.

Toure headed home an Andrei Arshavin free-kick and then Bendtner added a well-taken third, controlling Toure's pass on his knee before rifling the ball into the net.

Arsenal were forced into a change at half-time with Toure not coming back out because of a calf injury. He was replaced by Abou Diaby.

Wenger made four changes - one of them enforced - from the side held to a goalless draw by Fulham.

Johan Djourou replaced injured central defender William Gallas (ankle) while Bendtner, Emmanuel Eboue and Alex Song came into the side at the expense of van Persie, Carlos Vela and Abou Diaby, who were among the substitutes.

should wenger get henry back

Tuesday 3 March 2009

I think if this kind of situation arsenal can't only hope for their younger player to get through to the track back. Maybe this times wenger should get henry back if they want to save their top rank.

However if this happen it's a good step for arsenal as well as we knows henry have a good season at barcelona and he has all ability what arsenal need.

Wenger has mistake to sold henry out to barcelona and now as we saw arsenal not get any title since hes gone otherwise i think maybe arsenal could got title like many years ago.

With all such a young player in arsenal team, they need time to get further and struggle even they have a bright future at arsenal. This is not what fans wanted and I think wenger has lost his mind to hope for this player.

All though there is one thing that arsene can save their hope, It's to win the champion league for this season, If not in my opinion arsenal should find another manager for next season for axample rijkard, ben shunster or maybe jose mourinho, but this is not the only way to settle with, in another way arsenal should find a big money to splash and buy player in what arsene really wanted.

Wenger linked with move for Mestalla duo

Monday 2 March 2009

Arsene Wenger is reportedly tracking Spanish defensive duo Raul Albiol and Carlos Marchena as the Frenchman looks to strengthen his Arsenal squad, according to the Daily Mirror. The Valencia stars each have contracts lasting until 2011 but could move this summer as the cash-strapped side look to ease their financial problems.

23-year-old Albiol is apparently topping Wenger’s list as he weighs up the prospect of galvanizing his defensive options. The Spanish international currently holds a huge €60m buyout clause in his contract, but with his deal set to run out Albiol could be prised away for as little as £10m.

29-year-old Marchena was reportedly the subject of a bid from the Gunners in January but was seen as to valuable by the Mestalla outfit for a mid-season transfer. Elected as Valencia captain at the beginning of the season, the player excelled during Euro 2008 and earned himself a position in UEFA’s official team of the tournament.

The Gunners have improved defensively in recent months keeping seven clean sheets in their last eight games, however, with speculation still surrounding the futures of stripped captain William Gallas, centre-back partner Kolo Toure and on-loan Philippe Senderos it is thought that new recruits could be on the horizon.

Arshavin aims to conquer the fourth place

While Andrei Arshavin has conceded he is struggling to keep up with the pace of The Premier League at present, Arsenal’s record signing insists the club as a whole are desperate to win the race for fourth place.

When completing a reported £15 million move from Zenit St Petersburg at the start of February, Arshavin joined a club in Arsenal that are currently struggling for form and a fourth consecutive 0-0 draw against Fulham at the weekend leaves them six points behind Aston Villa.

Their predicament would have been even more serious but for two late goals for Stoke City against Villa on Sunday and, with disaffected fans making their feelings very clear at Emirates Stadium, Arsene Wenger faces perhaps the sternest test of his managerial career.

Failing to qualify for the Champions League would be a real setback for the North London club but Arshavin insists that such a scenario is not even being contemplated by the Arsenal players.

“Nobody even dares to think about it!” Arshavin told Sport Express. “Of course we have made our position in the race for the place in top four more complicated but the fight is not over yet.

“It turned out a mere copy of the previous game with Sunderland. Again we had a lot of scoring chances but nils remained on the scoreboard. It is the fourth goalless draw of Arsenal so the feelings are not very pleasant.”

When asked if the goal drought was discussed within the team, Arshavin added: “Almost no. And should it be discussed? Everybody understands it by himself that it is not normal.

“I came here not to count my personal goals or assists. Most important is that our team wins and we are only drawing now and every draw moves us away from our main task – getting into the Champions League next year.”

Arshavin was known to be short of fitness when joining Arsenal as Zenit’s season ended in November, with the Russian championship adopting an alternative calendar in order to avoid complications with the freezing winter that hits the country.

However, he displayed some clever touches during his debut against Sunderland and further impressed on Saturday when creating a number of chances for his wasteful team-mates.

The 27-year-old admits he is struggling with a lack of fitness but expects to recover his best form in the coming months, and has no qualms with Wenger’s decision to utilise him on both wings and through the centre when necessary.

“I was rather tired even in the first half and in the second one I felt dreadful fatigue,” he added.

“To tell the truth I lack freshness for the whole match yet. But I assume that it will become easier and easier every match. I should get into my best form as soon as possible as in two and a half months we are having holidays again.

“That is why it was very important for me that I spent all 90 minutes on the field against Fulham.

“No, position changing makes no trouble. The other question is how effective I am on this or that position. But that is for the coach to decide.”

so lucky for the gunners as villa got drawn

Today arsenal little lucky cos villa drawn against stock city, however arsenal were given a boost in their quest for the final Champions League spot as Stoke City staged a sensational fightback at Villa Park.

Trailing 2-0 to Martin O'Neill's side with just minutes remaining, Tony Pulis' side produced a fantastic rally to secure a 2-2 draw.

Victory for Villa would have sent them eight points clear of the Gunners in fourth place in the Premier League.

Instead, they are six points ahead of Arsene Wenger's side, who yesterday failed to break down Fulham at the Emirates.

Super sub John Carew had netted a sensational second goal for Villa with time running out after Stiliyan Petrov's first half opener.

That looked more than enough for victory but James Beattie crossed from the right for Richard Shawcross to head in Stoke's first goal and then with the game in time added on Glenn Whelan smashed a half-volley back past Brad Friedel to secure a draw.

boooed for the gunner again

Sunday 1 March 2009

What the miserable for arsenal after street goalless draw and once again failed to find the net as their Barclays Premier League clash with Fulham ended with draws at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal were booed off the pitch both at half-time and full-time by a section of the Gunners fans after wasting chances to secure victory over their London rivals.

Leading scorer Robin van Persie was twice denied by Mark Schwarzer from close range after he was set up by the impressive Andrei Arshavin.

Fulham were anything but negative - and came close to scoring themselves through Andrew Johnson.

Arshavin had returned after being ineligible for the midweek Champions League game against Roma but he was unable to inspire a goal as Arsenal failed to find the net for the fourth straight league game.

Mexican Carlos Vela started as Nicklas Bendtner was dropped to the bench along with Emmanuel Eboue, as the Gunners went in search of a first league goal at home since January 10.

But Vela was a disappointment and Bendtner was given his chance as a second-half substitute.
